CARBON REDUCTION PLAN

Supplier Name: Dowhigh Limited

Publication Date: April 25th, 2023

COMMITMENTS TO ACHIEVING NET ZERO

Dowhigh Limited is committed on achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030 AD.

BASELINE EMISSIONS FOOTPRINT

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2022
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Dowhigh Limited have recently implemented a project to record our emissions and carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, working to targeted reduction over time toward a commitment to Net Zero by 2030 for Scopes 1,2 & 3.

Our baseline numbers were captured in the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) Reporting requirements for 2021, as detailed below:
Scope 1 - Includes use of natural gas and vehicles.
Scope 2 – Electricity, Heating and Water Usage.
Scope 3 - Includes upstream and downstream indirect activities. Extraction, production, and transportation of goods and services purchased or acquired.

Our data collection is converted into emissions using the official DEFRA conversion factors.

Emissions reduction targets

To continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets. We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 500 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 49% and we expect to record data in 2022 that will reflect business as usual.

Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

  • Carbon Neutral in Direct Operations Scope 1, 2 & 3 by 2030
  • Reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2 & 3 GHG Emissions by 49% by 2025
  • Reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2 & 3 GHG Emissions by 75% by 2028
  • Carbon Neutral in absolute Scope by 2030.

The following environmental management measures and projects have been implemented. The ongoing and future measures will be in effect within this budget year.

  • Hybrid Working
  • Virtual Meetings
  • Reduced Office Space
  • Digital over Physical
  • Recyclable Materials
  • Supply chain monitoring
  • Use of environmentally friendly products
  • Switch to renewables for energy

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2021 baseline. The carbon reduction projects are as follows:

  1. Everton Park Mini Cycling P2R Mini Road:

Everton Park Mini Cycling P2R Mini Road is one of our schemes for the Liverpool Highway Improvement Programme (HIP). The client, Liverpool City Council wanted to make this project a carbon-friendly project. By using the following steps, we will be able to reduce the carbon emission of this project by 11.4 tonnes:

  • Using a rubber-based asphalt product with carbon sink bitumen incorporated into it.
  • The rubber-based asphalt product, ViaPath is a single layer product, which reduces the need to use two layers for carriageway/footway construction, which saves time and fuel consumption for the project.
  • We have setup and in-house recycling facility for the construction waste generated on site to divert waste from landfill and save haulage fuel consumption.
  1. Innovative products used on Liverpool HIP schemes:

Dowhigh Limited wants to make a statement that we are carbon conscious, we try to use carbon-friendly products in our operations. In this project alone, we have used the following products:

  • Warm Mix Asphalt: Asphalt is a big emitter and to reduce its footprint, we have decided to use warm mix asphalt in suitable conditions, which reduces the carbon emission of the product by upto 20%.
  • Rubber Mixed Asphalt: It is a sustainable product that has rubber crumb from tyres added to replace a certain volume of bitumen. We have also advised the supplier, CEMEX to use Carbon Sink Bitumen in the mix, which will lower the carbon emission of the product by 40%.
  1. Carbon Offsetting locally:

Dowhigh Limited have been in touch with local projects to help create a green environment in our locality. We have recently partnered with The Eden Project and Scouse Flowerhouse to find suitable location for wildflower plantation in Liverpool as part of our carbon offsetting project.

  1. Recycling waste we generate:

Dowhigh Limited has a recycling plant in Liverpool which recycles construction waste from all around the North-West. In the year 2022, our recycling plant was able to reduce 116 tonnes of carbon emission by diverting waste from landfill and reducing the need to quarry/produce virgin materials.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard[1] and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting[2].

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard[3].

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
