The contract was initially split into two phases, Cherry Lane surfacing, which involved the closure of the main carriageway from the motorway into the heart of the village, and entailed planning, re-surfacing and road lining of the carriageway.
Phase 2 involved the complete reconstruction of the entire village carriageway, footway, brick deck waterproofing and drainage.
Paving consisted of imported Chinese granite and cubical setts, together with a carriageway enhancement consisting of Yorkstone sett paving laid in a herringbone pattern and pointed with easypoint mortar and bedded on settpoint.
The scheme was undertaken with a full road closure and involved detailed traffic and pedestrian management, plus shop frontage accessibility programming.
Carriageway setts were flamed in the factory to produce a ‘distressed’ effect to the exposed top surface of the sett and to provide a blended appearance throughout the scheme.
