This project extended the original phase 1A works (from Kings Gap to Cable Road) which formed part of a master plan for the regeneration of Hoylake and West Kirby; the scheme comprised of high quality paving materials, landscaping and bespoke street furniture.
The project was envisaged to contribute to the long term development of Hoylake town centre and promote environmental quality and appeal to both residents and visitors, as well as to facilitate economic benefits for Hoylake.
The project was undertaken in two separate phases to avoid affecting the Christmas and New year trading periods.
Because of problems that occurred on phase 1A, every effort was made to keep disruption to a minimum, so the area and size of working zones that were permitted were restricted to ensure that works were completed to a satisfactory standard before proceeding to adjacent areas.
As a result of the requirement for greater public involvement with the scheme, a regular public/client contractor meeting was held on a monthly basis chaired by Councillor Gerry Ellis and involved Hoylake Civic Society, Hoylake Business Group, the ‘Friends of Hoylake’, whom dealt with the soft landscaping issues and various members of the Council including Simon Fox from the Technical Services Department, design section.
