Client: Liverpool City Council
Completion Date: August 2008
Duration: 12 months
Location: Liverpool City Centre, Merseyside

Covering an area 18,000 square metres, the specialist imported parting from China was brought in by boat via Southampton, and stored at Marshalls depot in Alconbury in Cambridge.

The works commenced in August 2007, and were initially due for completion in February 2008, however a sectional handover of the building produced a staged completion process extending the contract by a further six months.

Over fifteen operative gangs of tradesmen were engaged in the construction of the hard landscaping package and were supervised by our team of project managers, site supervisors, project engineers, foremen and gang leaders.

A logistical approach to working around the other sub-contractors engaged on the site had to be adopted, and numerous co-ordination meetings took place on a regular basis, to ensure that all works were co-ordinated efficiently. Progress on the site, in the critical months, was ensured by seven day working with twilight shifts being undertaken to maintain laying progression. Dowhighs works throughout the whole hard landscaping package included:

  • Earthwork & drainage
  • Ducting for street lighting and CCTV
  • Manhole and duct box construction
  • Co-ordination of waterproofing and specialist sub-contractors
  • Bituminous and concrete overlay to external works areas
  • Amphitheatre and staircase construction
  • Granite, conservation and Yorkstone paving, seats and kerbing
