Dowhigh Proud to Support the Elsie Dot Super Fun Day – Over £10,000 Raised for “Elsie’s Story”

On Monday, the team at Dowhigh Ltd was honoured to support a very special event that brought the Southport community together in the most uplifting way – the Elsie Dot Super Fun Day, held at Southport Rugby Club and organised by Farnborough Road Junior School.

This heartwarming event was held in memory of Elsie, a cherished young pupil from the Farnborough Road school community, whose legacy continues through a growing fundraising effort known as “Elsie’s Story”. With over 650 tickets sold and an astonishing £10,000 raised, the day was a testament to the power of community, love, and a shared desire to make a lasting difference.

Dowhigh’s Contribution

As a proud Southport-based company, we believe in giving back to the communities that support us. We were humbled to be asked to contribute to such a meaningful day, and our team stepped in to support the event in several ways:

  • We brought along one of our digger vehicles, which became an unexpected crowd favourite! Children were thrilled to climb inside, take photos, and enjoy a rare hands-on experience.
  • We supplied barriers and cones to help with safe crowd and parking management.
  • We provided health & safety support on the day, including first aid presence.
  • We also donated gifts for the tombola and bottle stand, both of which proved extremely popular and helped raise vital additional funds.

It was a day full of joy, laughter, sunshine, and community spirit – and we couldn’t have been more proud to be a part of it.

A Message from Organiser Ruth Caplan

Following the event, we received a beautiful message of thanks from one of the event’s key organisers, Ruth Caplan, who wrote:

*”Wanted to take a moment and send you a huge thank you for supporting the Elsie Dot Super Fun Day. The planets aligned and the sun shone resulting in an amazing day spent in the sunshine for over 650 people.

We really had everything; caricatures, entertainments, crafts, sports, dancing, singing and even a flypast from a Chinook! The spirit of Elsie certainly shone throughout the day and our Farnborough children consumed copious amounts of sweets, threw sponges at one another, built Lego creations, and returned time after time to the bouncy castles.

Businesses from Southport and beyond came together to offer their services for free and contributed hugely to the day – underlining the true community of our small town.

Thank you for offering Tony to assist us from a H&S point of view, for bringing signs and cones to help with parking and venue management, and most importantly, thank you for bringing the cool diggers for the children to get onboard and enjoy. I think the highlight of my entire day was watching the stand-off between your digger and the huge pink pamper bus in the car park – classic!

Please also thank all the people at Dowhigh who brought wine for our bottle tombola. As you suggested, it was a huge success.

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for investing in our Elsie Dot Super Fun Day. I am so very grateful.”*

A Message from Our Director, Brian Morrey

“It was an absolute privilege for Dowhigh to support the Elsie Dot Super Fun Day.

As a company rooted in Sefton, we take our community responsibilities seriously, and this event reminded us all of how powerful a united effort can be. It was a joy to see families smiling, children playing, and everyone coming together to honour Elsie’s memory in such a positive, hopeful way.

I’d like to personally thank Ruth and the whole team at Farnborough Road for inviting us to be part of the day. We were happy to offer whatever support we could – whether that was practical help, raffle prizes, or bringing our digger to spark some excitement!

It’s heartening to know that the event exceeded all expectations, raising over £10,000 – a figure no one dared to imagine at the start. This achievement is a testament to the strength and compassion of our local community.

Well done to everyone involved – it was Southport at its finest.”
